    Default past tense or past perfect - worked or had worked

    I am no longer working at ABC Company. Can I use "had worked" or "worked" in the sentence.

    I had worked with Mary for 5 years when I was at ABC Company

    I worked with Mary for 5 years when I was at ABC Company

    Use worked.
    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
