When you surrender you are giving up to some other party, who wins. In this case, there is no winner.

What would you say about this example in OALD®:surrender something/somebody The defendant was released to await trial but had to surrender her passport.

and this sense:
2 (formal) to give up something/somebody when you are forced to

What about abondoning them?
What about
1. not raising again something that was answered by SickVic and bhaisahab at the beginning of this thread?
2. spelling 'abandon' correctly?
