    Hello.
    Some books provide a picture and wrote:"Courtesy of AMD."

    Means they acctually contacted AMD?

    It means by the permission of somebody. Because that picture was not paid for, they wrote "Courtesy of AMD" to ask for permission in a polite way.

    No, they didn't write it to ask for permission. They acknowledged the kindness of AMD who had already given them the permission.

    Yes, sorry, you're right. I meant the same thing but used the wrong words.
