    Hello
    I want to ask whether ı can use "so that" to refer to purpose and result as well.
    Do you belive it is true to say "the doctor explained the nature of my illness in medical terms, so that ı couldn't understand." and " the doctor explained the nature of my illness in medical terms so that ı didn't understand."
    And why shouldn't ı use so that in the sentence " I was ill, so that ı didn't go to school."?
    pls help me...

    i think the first example is correct and the rest is false. in the two last sentence you should use only "so" with out "that"
