    Question LIFE OR THE LIFE

    hello,
    which one is correct? : "The purpose of the life" or "The purpose of life" and why?

    NOT A TEACHER

    The purpose of life is correct. Life doesn't need the definite article in this useage, as a straightforward mass noun. Contrast:

    He thinks life is a joke. (Mass noun)

    He was to live a life of privilege.
    (Mass noun with a modifier privilege)
