Thank you very much for your help. I've now got to know that we should use the more common forms of 'deserve to be done' and 'deserve + noun'.
My question came up when I read the PDF version of an online English Grammar. The original statement and examples are as follows:
2. Deserve + gerund is not very common, but is mainly used with passive
constructions or where there is a passive meaning:
a. Your proposals deserve being considered in detail.
b. These ideas deserve discussing. (= to be discussed).
