    Default which goes in the gap?

    First we need to provide the ................... to be able to improve our country.
    1) grounds
    2) fields
    3) backdrops
    Which is correct, please?

    Are these your only choices? None seem quite correct to me.
    There is an expression in English "to provide the grounds" but it does not seem to fit in this sentence.

    Yes they are the only choices. My techer gave it to us. If you have any choice, would you please tell me?

    You're welcome.
    If I had to make a choice I would choose 1) Grounds.
    But, I would also ask my teacher to explain the answer in light of the definition of: Grounds - factors forming a basis for action or the justification for a belief. For example there are some grounds for optimism | they called for a retrial on the grounds of the new evidence.
