Hi,

Below is a communication that was received from someone in a department who is trying to tell others that they need to be more aware of issues with grammar and spelling errors.

The funny thing is there are these types of mistakes in this communication!

I would appreciate the specific proofreading of this to "prove a point!"

Thanks so much!
:) Melissa

P.S. I know the first one is pretty obvious...even my 12 year old pointed that one out!

Officer’s,

I have been noticing a drop in required and specific detail in reports as of late. These issues have been addressed with individuals up to this point and corrections have been made. However to ensure future attention to this matter a departments wide email seems to be in order. Some of the more specific details include all of the suspect information including hair, length, eyes, build, facial hair, etc. Also in domestic reports it is required to list the following information: where in the house the assault occurred, previous assaults, any weapons used, drugs, or alcohol a factor, children present, detailed description of domestic relationship, completion of D.V. check sheet, D.V. info card given, injuries, photo’s of injury and scene. Most are doing this; some are not.

Please be aware of this when writing/reviewing reports.

Any questions please see me.

I don't see anything in the communication that tells people to use better grammar and spelling, just more detail. I see three errors.

I'd put a comma after "However" too.

Thanks!

What about a comma in the sentence that begins with "also?"

:)

Probably a comma after "reports."

However, so much of punctuation is a matter of style that I rarely include the inclusion or omission of a comma as an out-and-out error.

* Not a teacher

I don't know if my opinion is worth to be taken into account since many teachers have already told you what you should do, but I would not use a comma before etc.

I would, but "... so much of punctuation is a matter of style..." (as Barb so rightly said) that I rarely believe that my views on punctuation have anything other than a personal value.
