    Default sandbox

    Quote from VOA News:
The elder Buffett tells interviewer Leslie Stahl that his son will serve as a "guardian" of the company's "values" rather than a CEO, as long as the company's board approves. When America's second richest person Buffett Sr. dies, 56-year-old Howard will be "non-executive chairman", an unpaid position.
Howie won't direct strategy at the multi-billion-dollar investment firm, and he'll keep his day job as a corn and soybean farmer. (His own son Howard W. Buffett is also a farmer, and one of Forbes' Names You Need To Know for 2011.)
"You worry that somebody will be in charge of Berkshire that uses it as their own sandbox in some way," Buffett explains to Stahl in Sunday's interview.
    My question is :
what does the sandbox mean ?
    Thanks!

sandbox (AE) = sandpit (BE) - where children play with sand.

In your quote it means a place to have childlike fun and games.

Is it for fun and games?I think it is sth related to financial benefit, because Berkshire is Warren Buffett 's company not amusement park or sth like that.

    NOT A TEACHER

    (1) As the teacher told us, "sandbox" = where children play.

    (2) Mr. Buffet was using the word in a humorous way.

    (3) He is afraid that someone who directs Berkshire in the future will not

be serious about Berkshire. He is afraid that the new person-in-charge

will consider Berkshire as a "sandbox," where he can "play" -- do things

that may harm the reputation and purpose of Berkshire.

    (4) So that is the reason why Mr. Buffet's son will be the "guardian" of the

company's "values." If the son thinks that the new person-in-charge is

"playing" too much, the son will say: Hey! Stop that! Berkshire is not your

sandbox in which to do crazy things. Your job is to continue running Bershire

    in a responsible manner.
