    word usage

    Can the word " proceeded " be used when describing someone that comes afterwards but not immediately after instead of the word "succeded"??
    Exp: President Truman proceeded George Washington.

    Precede means to go ahead of; to come before. Washington preceded Truman.

    Proceed means to go ahead; to continue. The President proceeded into the hall.
