Default in the world or all over the world?

Yesterday I posted a question using my company's pc.
But I can't find it now in my pc.
Is it OK to ask the same question again?
I really hope some one will help me.

The question is "Are there any differences between the following sentences?"
    (1) Football is the most popular sport in the world.
    (2) Football is the most popular sport all over the world.

One of my English teacher told me the sentence (2) is unacceptable.
    Is it really so?
    Native speakers never say (2)?

You could say 'Football is played all over the world' (everywhere). To descrbe popularity, then the first sentence is the one to go for. It is possible to use sentence 2 but it has a different meaning- it would mean that it is the number one sport in every part of the world, which it isn't, as opposed to just the sport that is, in total, the most popular. It would make no sense to say that 'Mount Everest is the highest mountain all over the world', so in most cases your teacher is right.

    Thank you very much, tdol.
    Now I understand more clearly.
I regret that I didn't believe what my teacher said.

As with doctors, it's often comforting to get a second opinion.
