Default Is 'already' needed in the transformed sentence?

The refreshments had been arranged before the guest-of-honour arrived.

In the transformed sentence below, is 'already' needed?

By the time the guest-of-honour arrived, the refreshments had (already) been arranged.

    Thanks.
