Default Are the sentences correctly joined?

Ivy is not participating in the dance competition. Judy is not participating either.

Is the following sentence correct when the sentences are joined?

Neither of the girls, Ivy and Judy, is participating in the dance competition.

    Thanks.

    Thanks, 5jj.

I forgot to mention that the sentences have to be joined starting with Neither of. I wonder whether the below answer is correct.

Neither of the girls, Ivy and Judy, is participating in the dance competition.

If I were forced to begin with 'Neither of', I'd go for "Neither of the girls, Ivy or Judy, is participating in the dance competition.
