    The definite article

    Hello,

    Which is more correct?

    The Mediterranean sea, The black sea

    or Mediterranean sea, Black sea?

    The Nile, the Seine
    or

    The river Nile

    The river Seine

    The Pacific, or The Pacific ocean

    It would be the Mediterranean/Black sea and you could say either the Nile/Seine or the River Nile/Seine and either the Pacific or the Pacific ocean.

    I noticed that lakes are used without articles. Eg., Lake Malawi, Lake Victoria, Lake Ferry, etc.

    So it would be a mistake to add 'the' article, wouldn't it?
