- For Teachers
Hi all teachers.
In the word tourist,in American English the first syllable is ˈtʊr (tʊr.ɪst),but in British English it is ˈtʊə (tʊə.rɪst).
"syllable is a basic unit of written and spoken language. It is a unit consisting of uninterrupted sound that can be used to make up words"
I want to know why it is different between American and British English.
