    Historic/historical low?

    Dear Teachers

I am confused about the usage of "historic" and "historical" in the following context. Please kindly advise.

"Stocks are trading at historic/historical low price-to-earnings ratios"

    Regards

    Anthony the learner

    Re: Historic/historical low?

    (Not a Teacher)

'Historic' refers to things that are significant to history. 'Historical' is used to refer to precedents (i.e. historically low prices) and things pertaining to history or the study thereof (i.e. historical texts).

However, the two terms do tend to get used interchangeably, so stay flexible.

    I'd use "historically" there.
