    Default solitary confiment

I came across this sentence and I would like to know which is the correct preposition?

The messenger you sent me in solitary.( why isn't used the preposition 'to'?)

Here "solitary" is used as a noun. "I was in solitary when you sent me the message."

"The message you sent to me..." is possible but the "to" is unnecessary.
