Hello,

I'm watching L&O on DVD, and would like to ask questions
about the lines in it.

Two detectives asked a girl about her friend, but she and her mother
weren't able to provide any information.

One of the detectives said "When I was 14, my mother knew everybody
I hung with".
And the other said "How many friends packing metal did you invite over
for brunch?"

I'm not sure what the other means.
Does the other one imply that the first detective's mother invited
her son's friends for brunch in order to have them help packing metals
for recycling purpose???

Thank you,
Tara

It's a lovely idea, Tara, but no. I think it means friends "packing guns" (carrying guns on their person).

Hello bhaisahab,

Thank you very much for your quick and kind explanation.
Now I understand.
I tried to figure this out, and used too much imagination...

Thank you again.

"Packing heat" would be a more common expression for carrying a firearm.

Hello SoothingDave,

Thank you very much for feeding me another expression.
It's really good to know because I can't find the word in my dictionary, either.

Thank you,
Tara
