We can know from the passage that

We can know from the passage that the author is a _______ .
    A. science fiction writer B. science fiction publisher
    C. high school student D. novel translator

I feel it strange to read the construction 'we can know from the passage that', suspecting it should be 'we can learn from the passage that'. But I've come across it hundreds of times in China's classroom English papers. Is it good English?
    Thank you in advance.

No. 'We can gather', 'We can learn', 'We can extrapolate'........take your pick, but 'We can know' is not acceptable.
