    adjust to and gear to

    Dear teachers,

Can I change "gear to" in the following sentences to "adjust to":

    1. The typical career pattern was geared to men whose wives didn't work.
    2. The corse curriculum is geared to span three years.

Looking forward to hearing hearing from you.

    Thank you in advance.

    Jiang

I'd say not. You could use 'has been adjusted to' in the second, I feel.
