It is argued that the transition to the father's role, although difficult, is not ____ as great as the transition the wife must ____ to the mother's role.
The first blank has two answers "nearly" and "a little", I chose "a little" but the answer is "nearly", may I know why I was wrong"?
The second blank has two answers "take" and "make", why the answer was "take" rather than "make"?
Thanks a lot
"Not nearly as" is commonly used in this way when comparing actions, qualities etc. Where did you hear or read that "take" is correct in that context? "Make" would be correct with reference to "transition".
