Can I use `Who` for animals?

    `Who` is used for persons.
Can I use it for animals also?
Ex: This is the elephant who comes from India.
    Is it okay?
    Here who or which?

Can I use `It` for animals?

Please explain with examples if possible.

    Thanks!!!

Re: Can I use `Who` for animals?

Some people use 'he', 'she' and 'who' for their pets, but we normally use 'it' and 'which'.
