    Proverbs

    Hello,

Is it possible to omit the first 'as' in all the three proverbs and use either 'a' or 'the' interchangeably? (Especially in American English)

    As silent as the/a dead.
    As silent as the/a grave.
    As silent as the/a tomb.

    Thanks

    Re: Proverbs

These are not proverbs, but similes.

    Use the in all cases.
