    Welcome, Mary.

In North American English, "had" is synonymous with "did have",

[1] We had a lovely time, didn't we? (verb)
[2] We did have a lovely time, didn't we? (auxiliary + verb)

[3] We had to go, didn't we?
[4] We have to go, don't we?

[5] We did have to go, didn't we?
[6] We do have to go, don't we?
