Question Any informal term for 'restrictive', please?

    Hi,
Is there a common adjective meaning the same as 'restrictive' which could be used with words such as 'law', 'rules', 'customs', etc.? In Persian we have a word which is also used for an object that is just 'in the way', taking up too much of a room and making it awkward for you to move about. The same word could be used for the unnecessary 'rules' and 'customs' that make it hard for one to function appropriately by restricting them. Hope I can get some nice words here!

    Thanks!

Especially, I'm looking for an adjective describing things such as a piece of furniture that being in a particular makes it difficult to move about, and always looks to be in the way.

    Cheers!

In BrE we talk of red tape for excessive and obstructive laws, regulations, etc.

    So many thanks dear Tdol!

And is there anything used for pieces of furniture? I wouldn't think of 'bulky' because I suppose in the first place it emphasises the 'large' size of the item, which is not what I mean. The problem is, the piece of furniture is set in a place that makes it hard to move about the room. I'd really appreciate any help. Best!

I can't think of one for furniture- I think we'd have to describe it in the location, though someone may know of a term.
