    Off topic, but I found it interesting that most of the gifts listed in the second document to which BC provided a link were stored in various archives. The bottles of wine, however, were "Handled Pursuant to Secret Service Policy". Hmmm.

    senior Catholic officials like cardinals, and bishops too I have read below

    I have a feeling bishops are 'Your Worship' and either cardinals or archbishops (not sure - as the only one I've 'met' (well. I handed him a cheque on behalf of my school in the early '60s) are 'Your Eminence'*. But maybe 'Your Excellency' is a catch-all.

    No, you were right. Cardinals are Their Eminences. The Pope is His Holiness.
