Is it grammatcal to use "it" to indicate an animal or insect mentioned before?

Is it grammatical to use expression "it" in the after sentence "Hummingbird belongs to wild birds. It feeds on nectar." to indicate the hummingbird mentioned earlier sentence?
If so, I think I can also use "it" to indicate the subject mentioned before.

Yes, that is what pronouns are for. We use "it" for animals in the general or when we don't know or care about the animal's sex.
