The lecture,starting/which started at eight in the evening, was well-attended by students and faculty.

Do 'starting' and 'which started' here read as well to native speakers? Is 'starting' here used to mean the lecture was constantly held at eight in the evening?

Many thanks in advance.

For me, "which started" is more natural.

"Starting at 8" reads more like it is describing a future event than a past one.
