What is the meaning of “just refused to accept” in the following sentence:

He just refused to accept that his father was no longer there.

What is the meaning of “just refused to accept” in the following sentence:

He just refused to accept that his father was no longer there.

"Just" in that context would be synonymous with "absolutely".

What is the meaning of “just refused to accept” in the following sentence:

He just refused to accept that his father was no longer there.
It could mean that he was in psychological denial of his father's death. (Of course, for this to be the explanation, his father would have to be dead - without context, it's difficult to be sure).
By itself, it means he would not listen to any arguments that his father was no longer 'there'
.
