Thumbs down Privacy Settings floater is distracting

Can I not set my privacy settings or view the policy, and then dismiss the darned thing? It's actually the most noticeable thing on the screen. I clicked on it the first day, about a month ago, and now I'd like to avoid seeing it. Thanks.

I am sorry about it- the site is hosted in the EU and there's a new law that has come in about cookies which obliges all sites to display this information. I'd like to see the back of it too, but I'm afraid it'll be there for a while. I hope we can find a way to dismiss it too.

    Oh yeah?
I'm not a teacher, so please consider any advice I give in that context.

Could it not go into the menu at the top of the page, instead of floating around? It's even more annoying on the phone.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

I don't see the floater on my computer. Could it be that Adblock blocks it? (I use Firefox.)

No, I have that too. Fortunately, Red5 has already taken care of it, it seems. Thanks Red!
