Can I use this as a title for my dissertation?

    Dear all,

I'm currently writing a dissertation on the relation between education and labor market outcomes. I want to give the dissertation the following title:

    Why does education pay off?

As there is probably nothing worse than having an erroneous title, I want to know if this is indeed correct English (AE).

    Thanks in advance,

    Thijs

Grammatically it is correct, stylistically unorthodox. Have you discussed it with your thesis adviser?

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes, my thesis advisor thinks it's ok. However, we're both Dutch, so that's why I'm trying to get feedback from natives.

The responsibility rests with your adviser. If in their opinion you can defend such a thesis, then go ahead.
