Post how to use the pattern: "of noun"

    Hello teachers:
Anyone can tell me what is the grammar rules about this pattern "of noun" in English expression, just like the following example:
"It is of two kinds of method", if the of here is redundant or not?

Also, I got some expression used in somewhat English dictionary i.e Webster's advanced learner dictionary, here is the example: the explanation for the word "semantic" is "of or relating to the meaning of word", so what is the meaning and usage here of of.

    Thanks a lot.

"It is of two kinds of method" is meaningless.
