    a third year

    "First years are not allowed their own broomsticks."
    I understand the first part means 'First year students...'
    Are the following possible both in AmE and BrE?
    1. He is a first year.
    2. They are second years.
    3. I am a third year at such and such school.

    They are in BrE.
