    one of THE gradual improvementS

    Dear Teachers

I would like to know if the word and letter bold and underlined are necessary to comply with grammar rules?

The underlying trend remains one of the gradual improvements.

    Please advise.

    Regards

That sentence means little. The following is, I think, what you want:

Dear 5jj, why "one of" means little here? Appreciate it if you can elaborate.
