    Question about sentence

    Hello,
I'm student from Poland and i have question about sentence. Me and my friends had an argument about meaning of sentence "We all backed". He said that it means "we all returned" or "we went back". I actually can't agree with him. Can You help me with solving this riddle?
    Greetings.
    Robert

    Re: Question about sentence

    Welcome to the forum, Robert22.
"We all backed" is not a proper sentece in English. "We all returned" and "We (all) went back" are correct.
A better title for ypur thread would be "We all backed."

    Re: Question about sentence

    Hi Robert,
    I also welcome you.

A few other minor points about your post: "I" is capitalized but "you" is not. Also, despite how common it is among native speakers, "Me and my friends" should not be used as a grammatical subject; it should be "My friends and I." And lastly, after "help" usually it's just the bare infinitive: Can you help me solve (not solving).

You may know all that already, but since you have already demonstrated you care about English, I just point those out to you in case you didn't.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Well, as riquecohen has already responded your "sentence" is not a sentence nor even an expression, at least without some additional words. For example, "We all backed away after hearing the explosion" or "I backed the car slowly into the parking space". Another use of "backed" would mean "to be in support of" as in "We all backed our mayor in her proposal for a new park".
