Default Present perfect adverbs of time usage !

Would you all please help me make distinction between the adverbs of time, used in Present Perfect, like for the past few years and for the last few years?
    for example
we have got along with each other for the past 7 years.
we have got along with each other for the last 7 years.
    Thank you very much!

There is no real difference between 'past' and 'last' here.
