    Which sentences are right? Which ones are acceptable?

    This is the very first time I eat Japanese food.
    This is the very first time I ate Japanese food.
    This is the very first time I've eaten Japanese food.
    What a cute girl! I wish I knew what her name is.
    What a cute girl! I wish I knew what her name was.

    I'd use:
    This is the very first time I've eaten Japanese food.

    With the second, it depends on the context. If she's still around, I'd use the present.

    Note that none of them is acceptable without a full stop at the end.

    I'd say "I wish I knew her name".
