on the views of writers in the discipline of Competition law

The researcher has adopted analytical, descriptive and comparative methodology for
this report; reliance has been placed on books, journals, newspapers and online
databases and on the views of writers in the discipline of Competition law.

What does the part marked by red mean in this context?

Re: on the views of writers in the discipline of Competition law

It means that the researcher used writers in the subject of Competition Law as resources when writing the paper. "Relying on the views of" means he read what the writers had to say, and he is using their arguments and opinions to help him write his paper. Hope this helps. - Mark
