Question 1. With or without A? 2. Plural?

    Dear Sirs,
    1. I have just read this sentence: "There is not such thing as bad music"
In my opinion it should be: "There is not such A thing as bad music"
    Which one is correct?

    2. The Magic duo was very wellknown in Tyrol. They played important music there.
    OR
The Magic duo WERE very wellknown in Tyrol. They played important music there.
If it is a duo, two people, the verb should be in plural. Correct?
    Thanks for answering

    1. Are you sure it wasn't "There is no such thing as bad music"? That would be OK and natural. Your version is OK as well, but not as natural.
    2. A duo can be thought of as one thing or as two people. So the verb can go either way.

    Welcome to the forums, august.

In future, please ask unrelated questions in separate posts, and note that there is no need for any salutation — especially 'Dear Sirs', as your questions may be answered by female teachers.
