    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    I was brought up on the Black Isle, in a village a few miles away from Cromarty. The older "Croms", as we used to call the inhabitants of that picturesque place, certainly had a distinctive patois....
