    What to teach

    Hello everyone,

I'd like someone to write me a list of grammar points that should be taught at beginner level. For example: what should be the first lesson of grammar?

There's no fixed or established list- different people follow different sequences. When you say the first grammar lesson, do you mean their first lesson? I'd teach them some basic stuff before launching into a grammar lesson. Start with greetings and identification of self and others, or something like that. Will they be using the language directly outside the classroom? If so, then teach them things like how to catch someone's attention so they can get help in the street, like 'excuse me'.

The point is Im going to teach one of my friends, who does know just a small piece of English. I wanted to make a plan of grammar lessons and that is why I asked you to suggesst me where to start.
Maybe the introduction of the verb 'to be' would be ok and then followed Simple Present. What do you think?

Ok- what's their first language, by the way?

The verb 'to be' is an easy thing to get going. Language thatwill be useful for the lessons is also worth teaching- how do you say/spell, what's this/that, etc.

    Here's a basic syllabus: http://esl.about.com/library/weekly/aa072301a.htm

    My dear friend,
I personally think that the first thing that a teacher should start with is "the english alphabets" and the focus here should be put on pronunciation and the correct order.then, one can move to the subject pronouns and here the teacher should provide his/her students with clear examples so as to make each subject pronoun clear for them. After that, you can move to teaching the verb "to be".However, one should not focus on grammer at the expense of communication and to avoid this ,you can rely on small dialogues or paragrapghs with pictures.
i hope that this will be of great help to you .
    with kind regards,
    a teacher from Morocco
