    words that sound alike

My grand daughter is having trouble spelling words that sound alike but are spelled differently. When I was in school, many years ago teachers offered little clues to remember words like 'a piece of pie' piece has the word 'pie' in it or e before i except before c and so on. Do you have any tricks or clues that make kids remember how to spell words? To a 2nd grader.

Stationary/stationery- you can remember the writing materials word because it has e for envelope.

I forgot about stationary/stationery. I was told to remember "stationary" has an "a" as in "stand".
