    Default tutorial and tuition

In terms of the nature of teaching, what are the differences between tutorial and tuition?

    Thank you.

A tutorial is a short course of intense instruction given to one student or a small group.

Tuition is money paid for education.

I used to think that too, but apparently "tuition" is used completely differently outside the US.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    It is indeed.

Concise Oxford English Dictionary 2008 Oxford University Press:

    tuition

▶noun - teaching or instruction, especially of individuals or small groups.

    ■ N. Amer. a fee charged for this.

Tuition | Define Tuition at Dictionary.com

It's given an an alternate definition here, too.

But I've never seen the word used that way.
