    Default fault line

    Hi everyone,
Could anyone please tell me what "fault line" means in this sentence:
"New global fault lines, previously sublimated beneath the overarching confrontation between communist systems and the West, have emerged and deepened."

I would appreciate it if you gave me a synonym.

    Thank you in advance.
