    THE whole society?

    For society as a whole, we do not use THE; but how about whole society?

    If we don't use THE, it seems awkward; but esl students are often told not to attach THE to SOCIETY;

    in this instance, does it mean THE WHOLE SOCIETY is not idiomatic English?

    Re: THE whole society?

    The whole society could well be correct- what's the context?
