Journalists should present a balanced view of the news but trying to stir '' ''
Journalists should present a balanced view of the news but also trying to stir '' ''

If I opt to the second, should I use ''should'' to keep parallelism aright?

"Trying" is wrong. Use "try." A second "should" is not needed.

 And here's why it doesn't offend against parallelism if you omit the second 'should':

Journalists should [do this:] {present,,} and {try...}: 'present' and 'try' are both subordinate to the one 'should'.
