    'in faith'?

Do you think it would be possible to end an official document, e.g. a formal statement, with the words 'in faith' (in fact a literal translation of the Italian 'in fede'), just followed by the signature? If not (as I presume), could you suggest an appropriate formula? Thank you!

    No—that's inappropriate in English.

Here's an extract from the forum's guide to letter writing (see Resources at the top of the page):

    Ending a (formal) letter:

    1) Yours faithfully
If you do not know the name of the person, end the letter this way.

    2) Yours sincerely
If you know the name of the person, end the letter this way.

    3) Your signature
Sign your name, then print it underneath the signature. If you think the person you are writing to might not know whether you are male of female, put you title in brackets after your name.
