Default don't know or wouldn't have known

Thank you very much indeed. If it had not been for your advice, I really ______ what I should have done.
    A. don't know B. wouldn't have known

The answer given is A, but I think B is more suitable.

    Am I right?

    What is a native's opinion?

    Thanks!

    Jason

Although somewhat less natural/probable in context, (B) is certainly grammatically possible and meaningful, so this is clearly a very poor examination question.

They're both possible. As philo said, it's another example of a bad test question.
Remember - correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing make posts much easier to read.

I agree with philo and ems, but feel that if the meaning of B had been intended, a speaker in real life (rather than in bad test questions) would have been more likely to say, "... I wouldn't have known what to do".
