    in so far as

    Hi all,

"Here Jung defines the ego as follows: It forms, as it were, the centre of the field of consciousness, and, in so far as this comprises the empirical personality, the ego is the subject of all personal acts of consciousness."
Is "this" related to consciousness or the ego in the sentence above?
What does "in so far as" mean?
    Could you help?
    Thank you.

"This" refers to the "field of consciousness". "In so far" = "to the extent that".
Remember - correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing make posts much easier to read.
