    Default marks on the walls

    Sometimes prisoners put some marks on the walls of the prison to keep count of the days. Is there a name for that mark?

    It's called a tally mark.
    If it's four vertical lines crossed with a horizontal fifth line, then each set of five lines is called a five-bar gate.
    Remember - correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing make posts much easier to read.
